Book designer David Moratto, interior book design steps

10 interior book design production steps

FOLLOW THE 10 SIMPLE PRODUCTION STEPS TOWARDS YOUR INTERIOR BOOK DESIGN:

These steps summarize what you can expect during the production process of your interior book design and how we’ll be working together.

1. GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BOOK

We’ll have a friendly phone conversation. We’ll talk about your book's subject matter in depth, your book’s vision and the demographic of the reader to establish a solid design direction.

2. YOUR QUOTE

Once we’ve discussed all the details of your book, I’ll approximate the amount of pages to your book’s final trim size and email you an accurate quote.

3. HAS YOUR MANUSCRIPT BEEN EDITED?

Expert copy editors, proofreaders or indexers are available under my resource link.

4. YOUR MANUSCRIPT AND PHOTOS

Email a Zip file, FTP, or mail me a DVD/CD-Rom with your full manuscript in a word-processing program along with all your photos and other content if applied.

  • Photos can be provided as photographs for scanning or image files.
  • If you plan to scan your photos, consult with me first so that they are scanned at the proper size and resolution if you’re uncertain.

5. I'LL COLLABORATE WITH YOUR PRINTER

I’ll gather all the proper printing requirements from your printer to properly prepare your files.

6. GETTING TO THE RIGHT INTERIOR BOOK DESIGN LAYOUT

I’ll create 2 to 3 page layout designs – each one will include a title page and a two page spread to guide us to your final page layout. The approved page layout can be ‘tweaked’ if needed to your 100% satisfaction.

7. PROOFING FOR CORRECTIONS UNTIL IT'S 100% APPROVED

  • I’ll arrange all elements into the approved page layout design and create all your book pages saved to a web friendly PDF for emailing the first proofing..
  • You’ll send back the text corrections, email or mail done as an itemized list, marked up PDF, or marked up printed pages from the PDF.
  • I’ll send back the corrections.
  • We’ll repeat the process until it’s 100%.

8. A READY FOR PRINT PDF FOR PROOFING

Your complete interior book design is emailed to you as a ready for print PDF for a final proofing.

9. YOUR INTERIOR BOOK DESIGN IS READY FOR PRINT

Once approved, I can either upload the PDF file to your printer’s FTP site, your FTP site, emailed to you or saved on DVD and mailed directly to your printer or to you.

10. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PUBLISHED BOOK

You’re a published author. I’ll mail you a DVD for safekeeping that will include: The Packaged InDesign file (your interior book design which will iclude: photos, fonts, prepress info for your printer and all other elements that were used in your book design) and a ready-for-print PDF file.

This guide is straight forward guaranteeing from start to finish that your plan is achieved in your final book design and that you're 100% satisfied in the end. I’ll market your published book on my website with a link directly to where it can be found and bought.
