FOLLOW THE 9 SIMPLE PRODUCTION STEPS TOWARDS YOUR BOOK COVER DESIGN:

These steps summarize what you can expect during the production process of your book cover/spine/back design and how we’ll be working together.

1. GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BOOK

We’ll have a friendly phone conversation. We’ll talk about your book's subject matter in depth, your book’s vision and the demographic of the reader to establish a solid design direction.

2. YOUR QUOTE

Once we’ve discussed all the details of your book, I’ll approximate the amount of hours to your book’s cover/spine/back design trim size and email you an accurate quote.

3. YOUR BOOK COVER DESIGN PHOTOS AND TEXT

If you have photos or artwork email a Zip file, FTP, or mail me a DVD/CD-Rom containing all your photos or artwork and your text for your cover/spine/back design in a word-processing program.

4. I'LL COLLABORATE WITH YOUR PRINTER

I’ll gather all the proper printing requirements from your printer to properly prepare your files.

5. GETTING TO THE RIGHT BOOK COVER DESIGN LAYOUT

  • If no photos or artwork are provided, I’ll explore online photography sources such as istock.com and create quality mockups focusing more on your book cover design.
  • I may also email you a light box (images that can be viewed as large slides) from online photography sources for us to evaluate.

6. TWEAKING YOUR BOOK COVER/SPINE/BACK DESIGN

  • Once a suitable book cover design is agreed upon I’ll prepare a full mock-up containing your book cover/spine/back design saved as web friendly PDF, emailed to you for a proofing.
  • I’ll make corrections as needed.
  • We’ll go back and forth until your 100% satisfied.
  • I’ll tweak your book’s spine design to match your book’s width. I determine your book’s width by the page count and paper weight.

7. A READY FOR PRINT PDF FOR PROOFING

Your book cover/spine/back design is emailed to you as a PDF for a final proof.

8. YOUR BOOK COVER/SPINE/BACK DESIGN IS READY FOR PRINT

Once approved, I can either upload the PDF file to your printer’s FTP site, your FTP site, emailed to you or saved on DVD and mailed directly to your printer or to you.

9. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BOOK COVER/SPINE/BACK DESIGN

You’re a published author. I’ll mail you a DVD for safekeeping that will include: The Packaged InDesign file (your book cover/spine/back design artwork which will include: photos, fonts, prepress info for your printer and all other elements that were used) and a ready-for-print PDF file.
